The refurbishment project is to restore the Cultural Center to the grandeur of years ago. This center will be the future site for island gatherings, including the annual "Iska Festa" with a library, computers and island history for residents and visitors. We are one of two cultural centers recognized by the Croatian government.  Our support will be the foundation for further recognition and a landmark that will be the symbol of our island pride.

The exterior has been updated, and there is a lot of work needed for the interior in order for the center to re-open to the public. We are now in Phase II of this project with updates which will involve interior upgrading.  The locals of the island have been trying to do whatever they can to further this project and now have turned to their friends and family in the U.S. to assist them in their efforts as was done with the dinner held at Hotel Bankroft in 1928 by our ancestors.

POST EVENT UPDATE:

We had a successful event with over a hundred guests and numerous families in attendance such as the Cvitanovich and Zuvic families.  The two eldest Izani in San Pedro, Danica Cvitanovich and Albert Cvitanovich were there to share in the festivities and add some spirit from times past.  There was plenty of food (donated by our local and generous sponsors) and drink with toasting galore to good times and good memories!  Hopefully those of you that were unable to attend the first time around will be able to join us for the second one which will held in San Pedro at a different location where we can host a larger event and invite friends of Izani to come join in the fun and experience a glimpse of island life as we know it.  We look forward to having another event in Spring 2007.
